ODE TO MY FEET
I really kind of like my feet. Amazing.
That is totally a result of seeing, blessing and drawing them.
They're size 10.
And knobby with bunions.
Since I've been drawing them, though, I see the beauty of their long lines.
I see the big picture, not the big feet.
The real shapes and curves. Lovely.
Not all the little flaws or someone else's view of them.
How healing it is to see them this way.
I just want to look at them now because I love them.
Why not see them through loving eyes instead of critical ones?
The twists and lines and curves and shapes are gorgeous!
Better than any breathtaking statue I ever saw.
Rodin would have loved them.
If I can feel this way about my feet, I can feel this way about any part of my body.
This gives me hope. Hope is good.
Seeing beauty is good.
This is the twenty-first century. Ugliness is out!
Wendy Steiner said so in her book, Venus in Exile.
The celebration of women has returned! Venus is back in town!
Hey, it's not Keats, but better than nothin'.
DECORATION OF YOU FOR TODAY'S SEEING EXERCISES
MUSICALS
OK. Take out your imagination and put it on like a hat.
Today is musicals day, so dress in your favorite pretty or sexy musical/dance costume from Madonna's MTV videos, Grease, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Moulin Rouge in 1890's Paris, or Rocky Horror Picture Show. Hey. Don your tiara and slut dress. Or use a nightie and accessorize. I used red lipstick and a black slip like Elizabeth
Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Sizzlin'… Naturally, the only requirement is to be barefoot when you look at your foot. Or, you could be in bare, pretty sandals or sexy stilettos part of the time.
Do a dance from your musical. Make it flamboyant. "Let me entertain you… " (from Gypsy).
Do a fast tap dance in noisy shoes on the kitchen floor. Be Shirley Temple. Be silly. Shake your ringlets and swing your arms. "On the good ship lollipop…"
Tap tap……tap tap….
Tap tap……tap tap……tap tap
LIGHTING TO GAZE AT YOURSELF
The sun from a window would be good. Or, golden, pink or peach light from colored bulbs is flattering and pretty. You can even look at yourself through rose-colored glasses.
